Frank is expert on the production opportunities of smallholder farmers for durable rural production. He aims to enable young women and men farmers to produce, process and market tree products as part of their cropping and livestock systems. Frank works mostly in Africa and Asia.

Frank has over twenty years of experience as an advisor to enable smallholder farmers (men, women, youth) to produce with trees, and process and market local produce. He worked for fifteen years for the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) in local agricultural innovation, as well as national sector-wide approaches for national Natural Resource Management strategies. He analysed governance of traditional agriculture systems (for FAO). He carried out feasibility and scoping studies on production with trees, as well as proposal development for international NGOs. He regularly gives guest lectures in Wageningen University and Research centre (WUR).
Agronomy & Integrated Pest Management (MSc., WUR), Communication and Innovation Studies (Ph.D., WUR) on socio-technical innovation and multi-stakeholder processes in agricultural innovation. After this Frank published on innovating traditional agriculture systems and NRM governance processes.
