Field Trip in Mozambique

Peter Vissers is on a field trip in Mozambique to test the Biofuel Sustainability Framework in practice. He works closely together with our new part-time colleague João Chidamoio.

They visit several companies across the country to apply the Mozambique Biofuel Sustainability Framework together with local management through a due diligence audit. They visited the following companies:

  • Jathropa plantation of 2,000 hectares in interior of Mozambique
  • Cassava producer Clean Star Mozambique near Beira
  • Grown Energy Zambeze sugarcane plantation on the Zambezi River
  • Sugar producer Companhia do Sena

Photos: Cleanstar produces cassava with smallholder farmers in an agroforestry setup. The factory processes it into ethanol and sells it with clean cookstoves.

The three week trip ends in Maputo for consultations with various parties involved in the implementation of the Biofuel Sustainability Framework, including six ministries.
