The migration of mineral oils into food is something that has been known and researched for several decades. In spite of all the research, the toxicology and origin from where the mineral oils migrate from, remain to some degree uncertain. Because of this, policy makers have not been able to develop coherent and clear regulations regarding this topic for the food packaging industry. In reaction to recent findings of mineral oil concentrations in food however, the industry itself has taken the initiative to develop measures against the migration of mineral oils into food.
During the KIDV meeting on the 9th of June 2016, Partners for Innovation presented an overview of ten measures that have been developed and are already available.
